Car interior cleaning across Hertfordshire

A Hertfordshire car's cabin is a record of where it has been: the Chilterns on the mats in Hitchin, the Lea on the carpets in Hertford, a university term in Hatfield, a labrador in Harpenden. The outside gets washed because the neighbours see it. The inside gets the deep clean it needs about once a decade, usually the week before the car is sold. Yikes does it on the drive or at the kerb, in every town around Stevenage, through vetted local washers from the Yikes Network who bring the vacuum, the steam, the shampoo and the power. Stevenage has its own page; this one is the rest of the county.

Town by town

What is in the cabin, and where it came from

Hitchin and the Chiltern villages

Chalk. The lanes out to Pirton, Offley and St Ippolyts leave white dust in the footwells and the boot, and a wet winter turns it to paste on the mats. The shampoo and extraction in the Full Interior Detail lifts it out of the fibres; a vacuum alone grinds it in. The market town's terraces park at the kerb, which is fine, because the washer brings the power.

Letchworth and Baldock

Leaf litter and pollen. The garden city's trees get into the car as much as onto it, through the vents and on shoes, and by October the carpets of a Letchworth car are a compost heap in miniature. The Deluxe Interior every couple of months is the garden city habit; the Full Interior Detail in spring resets it.

Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield

Hatfield has a university and the cars of students, parents and lecturers, which means fast food, a term's receipts and a lot of miles on the A1(M); Welwyn Garden City has the county's leafiest streets and the damp that goes with them. The Full Interior Detail for the term's end, the Deluxe Interior for the commuter.

Hertford and Ware

River damp. A car that lives between the Lea and the A10 fogs its windows every winter morning and smells faintly of the river by February. Steam is the answer because it lifts the damp out of the fabric rather than perfuming it, and the protectant slows it returning. A morning window, so the shampooed carpets dry through the afternoon.

St Albans and Harpenden

Dogs and commuters. The avenues of Harpenden and Marshalswick run the county's newest cars and some of its oldest dogs, and the station run adds coffee and a week of newspapers to the mix. The Full Interior Detail with the hair properly lifted from the seats and the boot; the Essential Interior in between for the quick tidy.

Knebworth and the lanes

Mud. Knebworth, Datchworth, Codicote, Whitwell and Kimpton are footwell country: the walks, the horses, the muddy children and the boot that has never been fully empty. This is the Full Interior Detail's natural home, and it comes to the drive with its own water and power.

Across the county

Salt season inside the car

Hertfordshire grits around 1,500 miles of priority roads from October to the end of April, and the salt gets inside every car in the county on wet shoes, drying into pale tide marks on the mats and the carpet under the pedals. A vacuum spreads it. A shampoo and steam lifts it, which is why April is the month for the Full Interior Detail, and September the month for the second one, after the summer's sand and grass and before the salt comes back. The clocks went back on 25 October; an interior clean does not need daylight, but the carpets dry faster in a morning window.

To book, type the postcode into the booking page, confirm a Network washer covers it, pick the Full Interior Detail or the Deluxe Interior and a window, and unlock the car when the washer arrives. For a car that has gone a year or more without care, with food, mud and dog all in it, the Deep Clean goes further and takes two slots. For a car about to go back to a lease company, the end of lease page is the one to read, because the inside is half the inspection.

What's happening across Hertfordshire

Updated 25 October 2026

  • Hertfordshire's winter service runs to the end of April. Salt comes into the cabin on wet shoes and sets into the carpets; a shampoo and steam lifts it, a vacuum does not. (Hertfordshire County Council: gritting the road)
  • The clocks went back on Sunday 25 October. An interior clean does not need daylight, but a morning window gives shampooed carpets the afternoon to dry. (GOV.UK: when the clocks change)
  • Oasis have announced a return to Knebworth for their Live '27 tour. A car that does Knebworth's lanes every weekend in the meantime wants the Full Interior Detail twice a year. (Wikipedia: Knebworth House)

Hertfordshire questions

Good to know

Which towns do you cover for interior cleaning?
Hitchin, Letchworth, Baldock, Knebworth, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Hertford, Ware, St Albans, Harpenden and the villages between, wherever a Network washer covers the postcode. Stevenage has its own page.
Can it be done at the kerb in a Hitchin terrace?
Yes, in your own space, as long as the doors can open and there is a metre to work. The washer brings the power.
Will steam get rid of the river smell?
It lifts the cause out of the fabric rather than covering it, and the protectant slows it returning. A car that lives by the Lea will need it again in a year; that is the river, not the clean.
Does rain matter?
No. The job is inside the car. Only the drying time changes, which is why a morning window suits winter.
Do I need to stay with the car?
Only to unlock it at the start. The photographs and the receipt arrive when it is finished.
Same price in Harpenden as in London?
Yes. One booking page, one price list, and Members Club takes 20 percent off.
Do you need my water or electricity?
No. Your washer brings water, power and all the kit, so there is nothing to connect or set up. A flat, a terrace, a drive or a village street all work.
Do I need to be in?
Not for an outside only wash, as long as the car is where you said it would be and the washer can reach it. For anything that includes the inside, someone needs to unlock the car.
Who will wash my car?
In Hertfordshire your wash is done by a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network. You book and pay through Yikes at the usual prices, the washer checks in at the car and takes before and after photos, and your receipt and wash report come from Yikes.
Do you wash vans and larger vehicles?
Yes. Vans and larger vehicles cost a little more because they take longer, and the booking page prices it for you. For several vehicles at once, see our fleet page.
