Towns and neighbourhoods
Medway has its own pages, town by town. Gravesend, Dartford, Sittingbourne, Maidstone and the villages between are covered from the same booking page, and get their own pages as local washers join the Network there.
All eleven Medway pages in one place: the five towns, the peninsula villages and the suburbs on the Downs.
See Medway ›Norman castle, Dickens weekends and a High Street that fills up. We wash where you park, not where the crowds are.
See Rochester ›Dockyard terraces, the university campus and the Central permit zone around New Road.
See Chatham ›Medway's tightest streets, with a zone that runs to 10pm. Your own space stays yours.
See Gillingham ›The other side of the bridge: commuters at the station and vans on the Medway City Estate.
See Strood ›Parkwood drives, two cars a household and the salt air down at Lower Rainham.
See Rainham ›New estates on the peninsula, one road in and the marshes on three sides.

Yikes started in north London in 2023 and has cleaned more than 15,000 cars across the capital since. North Kent is too far for our own team to reach every day, so we have done it the way the best local services do: with local people. Washes here are done by vetted local washers from the Yikes Network, independent valeters who already work the Medway towns and the roads around them, and who have passed our checks.
Nothing else changes. You book on the same page at the same prices, your card is handled by Yikes, and the washer checks in at the car and photographs it before and after. You get the same wash report and receipt as any Yikes customer, and you can rate the wash or book the next one from the same text. If anything is not right, you deal with Yikes, not with a stranger's mobile number.
A few things every North Kent driver deals with, and how a wash that comes to you fits round them.
Salt, chalk, sap and leaves all sit on paint for weeks if they are left. An outside wash every few weeks through autumn and winter is the simplest way to keep on top of them, and a ceramic coating is the long term answer for a newer car.
How it works
Local life
Every Medway page has its own local life section. Here are a few favourites from across the patch, from the Thames to the Downs.
Rochester began as the Roman Durobrivae, where Watling Street crossed the Medway. Bishop Justus built the first cathedral in 604, and Bishop Gundulf rebuilt it under the Normans and raised the castle opposite. It is the second oldest cathedral in Britain.

Opened on 29 July 1834 and Grade II* listed, it is the oldest surviving cast iron pier in the world, recognised by Guinness World Records in 2020. Gravesham Borough Council bought it when it was close to collapse and had it restored.

Opened on 16 March 1999 in a former chalk quarry at Greenhithe, with 13,000 free parking spaces. Half of North Kent seems to be there on a wet Saturday.
The Kent Downs became a National Landscape on 22 November 2023, when England's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty were renamed. It covers about 900 square kilometres across 12 council areas, about a quarter of Kent, and the Medway towns climb its northern slope.

Britain's first new garden city in a century has passed 5,000 completed homes on its way to a vision of 15,000, around Ebbsfleet International between Dartford and Gravesend. The next phase of Ashmere, 228 homes, starts in December 2026.
Chatham's naval dockyard and its ring of forts shaped Medway for four centuries. The Navy left in 1984, and the surviving yard is the most complete of the Age of Sail anywhere in the world.

The 2021 Census counted 279,773 people in Medway alone, in 111,458 households, and the council put the figure at 292,655 by 2024. It is car country: 81 percent of Medway households have at least one car or van and 40 percent have two or more, against a national picture of far fewer. Fewer than one home in six is a flat, and two thirds are owner occupied. The towns along the Thames at Gravesend and Dartford are denser and the villages on the Downs are greener, but the drive at the front of the house is the common thread, and that is where most of our washes here happen.
More on this: what a ceramic coating actually does, why bird droppings and sap damage paint and cleaning for business vehicles.
The map of local government here is changing. Medway Council, formed in 1998 from Rochester-upon-Medway and Gillingham, is to be abolished on 1 April 2028 and replaced by a new North Kent unitary authority, with elections to the shadow authority on 6 May 2027. Kent County Council reported the ministers' decision as a northern council covering the areas now served by Dartford, Gravesham and Medway. For a car wash it changes nothing, but it is why we call this region Medway and North Kent rather than Kent: the Thames side of the county is becoming one place, and we cover all of it.
