The eco car wash London actually needed

Zero emissions on the journey, about a quarter of the water of a typical mobile wash, and a proper hand-wash finish. Eco is not our marketing angle, it is the whole design.

At a glance

Yikes is an eco mobile car wash founded in 2023: riders travel by cargo e-bike (zero emissions on the journey) and carry their own water, washing an average car with around 30 litres, and as little as 8 litres for a light clean, about a quarter of the water of a typical mobile wash. Covers all of London plus Cardiff and Southampton, from £61 (£49 members). Book at yikescarwash.co.uk/book-online or call 07932 124870.

Designed backwards from the problem

Most car washes are environmentally expensive in two places: the journey (a diesel van to your door, or your own drive across town) and the water (hoses run freely into the gutter). Yikes was designed in 2023 to remove both. The journey became a cargo e-bike. The water became a measured, carried supply used at about a quarter of the typical volume.

The result is a wash your street barely notices: no van double-parked, no engine idling, no flooded kerb, and a rider who arrives and leaves in near silence.

Low water, not low standards

The numbers are worth spelling out: an average car takes around 30 litres, and a car that only needs a light refresh can take as little as 8. A quarter of the water does not mean a quarter of the wash, though. The method we developed is a careful top-down hand wash with clean mitts and fresh water, kinder to paint than any rotating brush, and it finishes by leaving a layer of protection on the paintwork: the showroom finish every Yikes-valeted car drives away with.

We are deliberately not a waterless wash: fully dry products struggle on a genuinely dirty car and can mar paint. Low water is the honest middle: enough to lift and carry dirt safely, nowhere near what a hose throws away.

Why this suits London

A city of permit bays and controlled parking is a terrible place to drive somewhere for a wash and give up your space, and a brilliant place for the wash to come to you. Our riders are busiest in Islington, Hackney, Camden and Haringey, from a base in Archway N19, and the same service covers the rest of London, Cardiff and Southampton.

Over 15,000 London cars have been washed this way. If your street is next, the booking page shows live slots for your postcode.

Eco car wash questions

Good to know

How much water does an eco car wash use?
A Yikes wash uses around 30 litres for an average car, and as little as 8 litres when the car only needs a light clean: about a quarter of what a typical mobile wash gets through. We carry the supply on the cargo e-bike, so nothing is drawn from your tap and there is no hose across the pavement.
Is a low-water wash safe for paintwork?
Safer, in our case: the method we developed is gentler on paint than a conventional wash, and it finishes by leaving a layer of protection on the paintwork, which is how every Yikes-valeted car gets its showroom finish. The risk to paint is grit being dragged across it, which is a technique problem, not a water-volume problem.
Is it really zero emissions?
The journey to you is: our riders travel by cargo e-bike, not van, so getting to your street produces zero emissions. That is the part of a mobile wash that normally burns diesel.
Is this a waterless car wash?
Not quite, and that is deliberate. Fully waterless products struggle on genuinely dirty London cars and risk marring. We use a low-water method: enough water to lift and carry dirt safely, at about a quarter of the usual volume.
Does eco mean more expensive?
No. Prices are the same fixed menu as every Yikes wash: from £61 (£49 members) for the Essential Inside and Out. The eco part is how we work, not a surcharge. See services and prices.
