Park anywhere near the Plain or under the oaks off Rangers Road and you know the routine: a lace of sap and pollen by midweek, bird mess on the roof by Sunday. Left alone, both etch into lacquer; caught early with a gentle hand wash, they wipe away harmlessly.
Chingford has more driveways than our inner-London patches, which makes visits even quicker: the rider arrives fully self-contained, washes on the drive or at the kerb, and the low-water method, about a quarter of a typical mobile wash, means no river down the street.
The forest oaks and hornbeams are the main event: sap and honeydew from late spring, drifting pollen that sticks to warm paint, and birds on every branch. Down at Chingford Mount and along the A112, stop-start traffic adds brake-dust film. A fortnightly gentle wash keeps an E4 car looking new; the clay bar add-on rescues one that has been left too long.
