Anyone who has circled the Ladder at 7pm knows why driving to a car wash is a non-starter here. Our answer is to remove the drive: a rider comes over from the Archway base by cargo e-bike, works beside the car in its bay without blocking the rung, and is gone with zero emissions spent on the journey.

Haringey is one of our busiest boroughs, so Harringay sits in dense coverage: riders cross between Finsbury Park, Green Lanes and Turnpike Lane all day. The method uses about a quarter of the water of a typical mobile wash, which matters on streets where the gutters run straight down to the New River.

Green Lanes grime and Ladder trees

Cars parked near Green Lanes wear the film of one of north London's busiest local high streets: brake dust, cooking-vent residue and general traffic grime. On the rungs themselves, street trees add sap and bird mess through the warm months. Both bond to lacquer if ignored; both lift easily with a regular gentle hand wash.
