Mobile car valeting across Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire is a county of planned towns and old ones, and its cars get dirty in two different ways: the garden cities and the New Towns park under trees, the market towns park in the street, and all of them commute down the A1(M) or the A10 into the salt and the spray. A valet, outside and inside in one visit, is the clean most households here actually want, and Yikes brings it to the drive or the kerb through vetted local washers from the Yikes Network. Stevenage has its own page. This one covers the towns around it, from Hitchin and Letchworth in the north to St Albans and Hertford in the south.

Town by town

What a valet takes off in each part of the county

Hitchin

A market town since at least the seventh century, Hitchin parks in its streets: the terraces off Walsworth Road and Bearton Road, the Victorian villas by the Priory, the closes out at Westmill. The cars carry chalk from the Chiltern lanes, the River Hiz's damp in winter and the market's Saturday dust. A valet at the kerb in your own space, with the inside done so the lavender fields' summer and the school run's crumbs both go.

Letchworth Garden City and Baldock

The first garden city was laid out from 1903 with wide verges and trees on every road, and the cars of Letchworth live under them: lime and sycamore sap in June, leaf stain in November. Baldock adds the A1(M)'s spray. The Deluxe Inside & Out lifts the sap film properly, which a rinse never does, and the drives of Letchworth and Baldock are wide enough for two cars on one booking.

Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield

The second garden city, founded in 1920, is the greenest town in the county and the one where a parked car gets dirtiest fastest: sap, pollen, bird mess and the shade that keeps it all damp. Hatfield's cars do the A1(M) and the university run. A Deluxe every four to six weeks in WGC and Hatfield keeps the paint from dulling under the trees; the Essential between keeps the cabin civil.

Hertford and Ware

The county town sits on the Lea and its cars carry river damp, the A10's film and, in the terraces of Bengeo and the closes of Sele, a winter of salt. Ware is the same river, further down. The inside half of the valet matters here, with the damp lifted from the carpets and the inside glass done for the mornings when the river mist sits on the town.

St Albans and Harpenden

The cathedral city and its commuter neighbour run the newest cars in the county, parked on drives in Marshalswick, Fleetville and the Harpenden avenues, and driven to the station and the M1. The dirt is motorway film and tree sap, and the valet is a habit rather than a rescue: Deluxe Inside & Out monthly, Deluxe Exterior between for a car that mostly commutes.

Knebworth and the villages

Knebworth, Datchworth, Codicote, Kimpton, Whitwell and the villages between the A1(M) and the A602 are lane country: mud in the arches, hedge scratches, sap under the oaks, and a dog in the boot. The valet comes to the drive with its own water, which matters in a village where the outside tap is at the back of the house.

Across the county

Hertfordshire's winter, and the valet that answers it

The county council's winter service starts on 1 October and its crews are on standby around the clock until the end of April, treating about 1,500 miles of priority roads whenever the surface is forecast to fall to half a degree: every A and B road first, then bus routes and one road into each village of fifty houses or more, then the steep roads and the routes to care homes and libraries. Which is to say that nearly every road a Hertfordshire car uses gets salted, and the salt sits on the paint and walks into the cabin for six months. A valet every four to six weeks through the season is the one habit that keeps a car looking new, and the clocks went back on 25 October, so a window that starts by 2pm finishes in the light.

Booking is the same in every town: postcode in, the page confirms a Network washer covers it, pick the Deluxe Inside & Out or the Essential and a two hour window, and pay. Twice a year, after the gritters stop in April and before they start in October, the Super Valet with its wax and interior restoration is the right upgrade; for a car that has been neglected for a year, the Deep Clean comes first.

How it works

How a wash works in Hertfordshire

  1. Book onlinePick your clean and a two-hour arrival window between 10am and 6pm, up to four weeks ahead. Same prices as the rest of London.
  2. A local washer takes itA vetted washer from the Yikes Network who works your patch. They bring water, power and kit, and sort their own parking.
  3. Before and after photosYour washer checks in at the car and photographs it before and after, so you have a record without being there.
  4. Your wash reportA text the moment it is done, with the photos, your receipt and a link to rate the wash or book the next one.

The valets we do across Hertfordshire

  • Two cars on a Letchworth drive under a lime tree: Deluxe Inside & Out on both, one booking, the sap lifted properly.
  • A Hitchin terrace car at the kerb: Essential Inside & Out every few weeks in your own space.
  • A Hatfield commuter's hatchback: Deluxe Exterior for the A1(M) film, inside left alone until it needs it.
  • A Hertford family car by the river: Deluxe Inside & Out with the damp lifted and the inside glass done.
  • A St Albans SUV that mostly does the station: Deluxe monthly, as a habit.
  • A village estate car with a dog: Deluxe Interior, hair out of the boot, then the Essential between.

Hertfordshire questions

Good to know

Which Hertfordshire towns do you valet in?
Hitchin, Letchworth, Baldock, Knebworth, Welwyn, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Hertford, Ware, St Albans and Harpenden, wherever a Network washer covers the postcode; the booking page checks when you type it. Stevenage has its own page.
Does a valet include the inside?
Yes, that is what makes it a valet rather than a wash: vacuum, plastics, inside glass, sills and door shuts, in the same visit as the outside.
Does the washer need my outside tap?
No. Water and power come in the van, which is why a village drive with the tap round the back is no problem.
Do I need to be home?
To unlock the car at the start of the window, yes. For an outside only Deluxe Exterior, no.
Can two cars go on one booking?
Yes. Add both and the washer does them in the same visit, each with its own photographs.
Is it the same price in Hitchin as in London?
Yes. One booking page, one price list, and Members Club takes 20 percent off.
Do you need my water or electricity?
No. Your washer brings water, power and all the kit, so there is nothing to connect or set up. A flat, a terrace, a drive or a village street all work.
Do I need to be in?
Not for an outside only wash, as long as the car is where you said it would be and the washer can reach it. For anything that includes the inside, someone needs to unlock the car.
Who will wash my car?
In Hertfordshire your wash is done by a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network. You book and pay through Yikes at the usual prices, the washer checks in at the car and takes before and after photos, and your receipt and wash report come from Yikes.
Do you wash vans and larger vehicles?
Yes. Vans and larger vehicles cost a little more because they take longer, and the booking page prices it for you. For several vehicles at once, see our fleet page.
