Mobile car valeting in Stevenage

Stevenage was planned around the car before most of its residents were born, and the planners left two things behind: cycleways that keep the traffic off the estates, and garage courts and parking squares where the car sits for days under a Norway maple. A valet brings it back. Yikes sends a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network to the court, the close or the drive in Bedwell, Broadwater, Shephall, Chells, Pin Green, Symonds Green and Great Ashby, with water and power on board, and they wash the outside, clean the inside and send you the photographs. You pick a two hour window online and the car stays where it is.

Why a valet here

Trees, courts and the A1(M)

The New Town was laid out with Norway maple avenues along nearly every road, and from June to September the maples drip honeydew onto whatever is parked beneath them. It dries into a sticky, dusty film that a quick rinse smears rather than removes, and by autumn the roof and bonnet of a court parked car feel tacky. Underneath that is the ordinary dirt of a commuter town on the A1(M): traffic film from the motorway and the Gunnels Wood run, and in winter the salt that Hertfordshire's gritters lay on the A602, Fairlands Way and Gunnels Wood Road. A valet takes the lot off, including the honeydew, because the two bucket wash is designed for exactly that sort of bonded film.

Inside is the other half. Stevenage is a town of woods and lakes, and the mud from Fairlands Valley, Monks Wood and Whomerley Wood comes home in the footwells. With 46 percent of homes terraced, a lot of cars live in the Radburn garage courts behind the houses, and a car parked in a court is a car nobody looks at closely until the dog has been in it twice. The Deluxe Inside & Out gives the cabin a proper vacuum, wipes and dresses the plastics, does the inside glass and the door shuts. For a car that is washed every few weeks the Essential Inside & Out is enough; for a cabin that needs a reset, the interior cleaning page is the one to read.

In your own space, not on the verge

The borough now fines verge and footway parking in Broadwater, St Nicholas, Martins Wood, Pin Green, Bedwell, Chells, Chells Manor, Shephall and Bandley Hill, £70 a time, so a valet happens where the car is legally parked: in the court, the square, your drive or your permit bay in the Old Town. Your washer parks their own vehicle properly and brings everything, water included, so a garage court with no tap is no problem. Two cars on one drive in Great Ashby go on one booking and get done together.

When to book it

Gritting season, dark evenings and Stevenage 80

Hertfordshire's winter service runs from 1 October, with crews on standby around the clock until the end of April and about 1,500 miles of priority roads treated whenever the surface is forecast to drop to half a degree. That salt sits on paint and in carpets for months, and a valet every four to six weeks through the season is the habit that keeps a car looking new. The clocks went back on 25 October, so take a window that starts by 2pm and the washer finishes in daylight.

2026 is Stevenage 80, the town's eightieth year since it was designated the first New Town on 1 August 1946. The New Town lights go on at the Island on 21 November and the Old Town's at the Bowling Green on 28 November, and a car valeted the week before is a car that is ready for the relatives. Twice a year the Deluxe is not quite enough and the Super Valet, with its wax and interior restoration, is the right call: once in April when the salt is gone, once in September after the honeydew.

How it works

How a wash works in Hertfordshire

  1. Book onlinePick your clean and a two-hour arrival window between 10am and 6pm, up to four weeks ahead. Same prices as the rest of London.
  2. A local washer takes itA vetted washer from the Yikes Network who works your patch. They bring water, power and kit, and sort their own parking.
  3. Before and after photosYour washer checks in at the car and photographs it before and after, so you have a record without being there.
  4. Your wash reportA text the moment it is done, with the photos, your receipt and a link to rate the wash or book the next one.

Stevenage cars, and the valet that suits each

The 2021 Census counted 36,510 households in Stevenage, 80 percent of them with a car and 38 percent with two or more. The housing shapes the valet: Chells Manor is 90 percent car owning with a third of its homes detached, so the valet is on the drive; Bedwell is 66 percent car owning with 38 percent flats, so it is in the parking square or the court; and the terraces of Broadwater and Shephall put the car in a garage court behind the house.

  • The family car after Fairlands Valley: Deluxe Inside & Out, the mud out of the footwells and the boot vacuumed.
  • A hatchback in a Pin Green garage court: Essential Inside & Out every few weeks, done in the court.
  • The commuter's car at a Great Ashby drive: Deluxe Exterior for the A1(M) film and the honeydew, inside left alone.
  • The dog's car: Deluxe Interior, hair lifted from the seats and the boot.
  • Two cars on one drive: one booking, both done in one visit, a wash report for each.

Stevenage questions

Good to know

What does a valet add to a wash?
The inside. A wash is the outside; a valet is the outside plus the vacuum, the plastics, the inside glass, the sills and door shuts, all in one visit. The Essential Inside and Out is the lighter version, the Deluxe Inside and Out the full one.
Can the washer work in a Radburn garage court?
Yes, if the car is in your own space and there is room to walk round it. The washer brings water and power, so no tap or socket is needed. Put the court's name and any gate details in the booking notes.
Do I need to be home?
For anything with an inside, yes: someone unlocks the car at the start of the window. For a Deluxe Exterior on its own, no.
My car is in the Old Town permit zone. Does the washer need a permit?
No. The permit is for your car, which stays in your bay. The washer parks their own vehicle legally and walks the kit over.
How often should a Stevenage car be valeted?
Every four to six weeks from October to April, when the gritters are out, and every six to eight weeks in summer, when the maples are dripping. Members Club takes 20 percent off every booking.
Is it the same on match days at the Lamex?
Yes, but the streets round Broadhall Way are patrolled on match days and supporter parking is banned on verges and in the retail parks, so book for a day the car is in its own space rather than on the road nearby.
Do you need my water or electricity?
No. Your washer brings water, power and all the kit, so there is nothing to connect or set up. A flat, a terrace, a drive or a village street all work.
Do I need to be in?
Not for an outside only wash, as long as the car is where you said it would be and the washer can reach it. For anything that includes the inside, someone needs to unlock the car.
Who will wash my car?
In Hertfordshire your wash is done by a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network. You book and pay through Yikes at the usual prices, the washer checks in at the car and takes before and after photos, and your receipt and wash report come from Yikes.
Do you wash vans and larger vehicles?
Yes. Vans and larger vehicles cost a little more because they take longer, and the booking page prices it for you. For several vehicles at once, see our fleet page.
