Home / Locations / Hertfordshire / Fleet and van washing
A county of market towns and business parks runs on vans: the electrician in Hitchin, the courier depot at Hatfield, the county council's own pool at Hertford, the trades that keep St Albans' Victorian housing standing. Each van is the business's name driven past a few hundred customers a day, and a dirty one says something nobody wants said. Yikes washes them where they park, yard, depot, office car park or the driver's own drive, through vetted local washers from the Yikes Network who bring water and power and work through the list in one visit. Stevenage and Gunnels Wood have their own page.

What is included
Town by town
The business park end. Hatfield's former aerodrome is now the county's biggest cluster of offices, depots and distribution, with the A1(M) at the gate, and its vans come back with motorway brake dust baked onto white paint. A yard wash every fortnight, cabs monthly, the 10am window so the vans are done before the drivers are back. Welwyn Garden City's trades park on drives under the trees, and the sap on a white van roof is the first thing a customer sees from an upstairs window.
The county town is the county council's and the district council's home, a brewery since 1827, and the A10 corridor's distribution. Pool cars in an office car park, delivery vans at a depot gate, and the river's damp on all of them: the Essential Inside & Out monthly for the cabs, the outside wash fortnightly through the winter.
Trade country. Plumbers, roofers, landscapers and the garden city's famously tidy builders, parked on drives in Westmill, on the Grange and the Jackmans estate, and in the small yards off the A505. The sole trader pattern: the driver books it for the drive, the business pays, and the photographs go to the phone that booked. Chalk from the Chiltern lanes fills the arches, and the Deluxe Exterior monthly takes it out.
The cathedral city's housing stock keeps every trade in the county busy, and its streets are tight: a van is washed on the drive it parks on, or in the yard on the Lyon Way or Ashley Road estates. Harpenden adds the M1 and the Luton airport run, whose expansion to 32 million passengers a year was approved in April 2025 and whose traffic coats a van in brake dust every shift.
The lanes. A van that works Datchworth, Codicote and Whitwell takes mud, sap and chalk in turn, and the arches fill with the countryside. Deluxe Exterior monthly, Essential Exterior between, and a Super Valet before the quote that matters.
Across the county
The person who looks after the vans books them. The yard's postcode goes into the booking page first and the page confirms a Network washer covers it; each van is added with its size, a window chosen, and the lot paid for in one go. A long wheelbase takes longer than a small van and is priced accordingly, with every size shown before the card goes in. On the day the washer arrives with water and power, so a compound with neither is fine, and takes a before and an after of every vehicle. Accounts get one receipt naming each van; the fleet manager gets the photographs.
Hertfordshire's gritters cover about 1,500 miles of priority roads from October to the end of April, so the fortnightly outside wash is a six month habit; through the summer monthly holds the line. A standing plan across more than one yard is explained on the fleet page. A single van just gets booked. Since the clocks went back on 25 October, the 10am window has the fleet finished before the afternoon runs.
