End of lease car clean in Stevenage

Gunnels Wood runs on company cars. GSK, Airbus, MBDA and the science park between them put thousands of lease cars on Stevenage's drives, and every one of them goes back one day to a twenty minute inspection with a torch, a card and a tariff of charges. Most of what gets charged is not damage; it is dirt that looks like damage, and the way to avoid it is to hand back a car that is obviously cared for. Yikes does that clean on your drive or in your court, through a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network, with dated photographs of every panel and wheel so the condition on collection day is on record.

What the inspector looks for

Three years of Stevenage, and what it leaves on a lease car

The inspection follows the industry's fair wear and tear guide, but the inspector is a person with a torch on a drive, and a dirty car gets a harder look than a clean one. The things three years in Stevenage leave behind are specific. The Norway maples drop honeydew on anything parked under them, and a car that has lived in a garage court in Chells or Pin Green has it baked into the roof and bonnet as faint rings that read as paint damage until the paint is decontaminated. The A1(M) leaves brake dust on the alloys as a brown shadow that a wash cannot shift and an inspector photographs first. Hertfordshire's winter salt leaves tide marks on the carpets, and the woods and Fairlands Valley leave the footwells and the boot in a state the shampoo add on exists for.

The order of work

If the paint feels rough or the wheels are brown, book the Exterior Detail for the week before: the iron remover and the clay take off what three years of the motorway have bonded on, and the End of Lease clean then finishes a car that already looks cared for. If the inside has had a dog, children or a winter of wet coats, book the Full Interior Detail for the same week. Then the End of Lease clean itself, three to five days before collection, so the shampooed carpets dry fully with the windows cracked and nobody has to use the car afterwards.

What the clean covers

Outside: a proper two bucket wash, the wheels and arches, tar spots off the sills, the tyres dressed, the glass finished and the plastics brought back. Inside: everything vacuumed, the plastics and leather cleaned, the inside glass, the boot cleared and cleaned, the door shuts and sills wiped, and the shampoo add on for anything that has soaked into the fabric. Every stage is photographed with the time and date and the photographs are yours to keep.

How to book it

Where the car is parked, three to five days before

Type your postcode into the booking page; if a Network washer covers it, the End of Lease clean appears with the price for your car's size. Someone unlocks the car at the start of the window, the washer brings water and power, and the photographs and the receipt arrive when it is done. A drive is easiest, but a court bay or a parking square works if every door can open, and the clocks went back on 25 October, so a morning window gives the carpets the afternoon to dry.

The clean happens at home, not at the dealer. The car is then driven to the hand back on a dry day, or collected from the drive with the photographs already taken. Nearly half of Stevenage's homes are terraced and many of the town's lease cars live in Radburn courts, which is fine; the only place the clean cannot happen is on a verge, which the borough fines in most New Town neighbourhoods.

  1. Book onlinePick your clean and a two-hour arrival window between 10am and 6pm, up to four weeks ahead. Same prices as the rest of London.
  2. A local washer takes itA vetted washer from the Yikes Network who works your patch. They bring water, power and kit, and sort their own parking.
  3. Before and after photosYour washer checks in at the car and photographs it before and after, so you have a record without being there.
  4. Your wash reportA text the moment it is done, with the photos, your receipt and a link to rate the wash or book the next one.

The returns we see in Stevenage

  • The Gunnels Wood company car: Exterior Detail a week before for the A1(M) iron and tar, End of Lease clean three days before.
  • The Great Ashby family SUV at the end of a PCP: End of Lease clean with the shampoo add on, because of the children and the dog.
  • The car that lived under a maple in a court: Exterior Detail for the honeydew rings, then the End of Lease clean.
  • The station commuter's hatchback: End of Lease clean alone is usually enough, with the inside glass done.
  • The car you are buying at the end: the Super Valet instead; it is yours now.

What's happening in Stevenage

Updated 25 October 2026

  • The clocks went back on Sunday 25 October and shampooed carpets take most of a day to dry; book a morning window three to five days before collection. (GOV.UK: when the clocks change)
  • Hertfordshire's gritters are out until the end of April. Salt tide marks on the carpets are the commonest thing an inspector flags on a winter return; the shampoo add on lifts them. (Hertfordshire County Council: gritting the road)
  • Stevenage Borough Council now fines verge and footway parking in most New Town neighbourhoods, £70 a time. Have the clean done in your own space, not on the road outside. (Stevenage Borough Council: verge parking)

Stevenage questions

Good to know

Exterior Detail first, or straight to the End of Lease clean?
If the roof feels gritty or the alloys have gone brown, the Exterior Detail goes in a week ahead. The End of Lease clean goes in three to five days ahead whatever the paint is like.
Will the washer come to Gunnels Wood or the dealer?
Home, yes. A dealer's forecourt, no. A workplace car park is possible if the site agrees; ask them first and put the arrangement in the notes.
How thorough are the photographs?
Each panel, each wheel, the cabin and the boot, shot before and after with the time and date stamped, kept in your wash report for as long as you want them.
Does it sort out a kerbed wheel or a scratch?
No. The clean deals with dirt, which is behind most disputed charges; damage is a different job and the photographs will show it as it is.
My car lives in a garage court. Is that all right?
Yes, provided it is your own bay and every door can open. Water and power come with the washer.
Same price as a Stevenage neighbour pays in London?
Yes. One booking page and one price list everywhere, with 20 percent off for Members Club.
Do you need my water or electricity?
No. Your washer brings water, power and all the kit, so there is nothing to connect or set up. A flat, a terrace, a drive or a village street all work.
Do I need to be in?
Not for an outside only wash, as long as the car is where you said it would be and the washer can reach it. For anything that includes the inside, someone needs to unlock the car.
Who will wash my car?
In Hertfordshire your wash is done by a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network. You book and pay through Yikes at the usual prices, the washer checks in at the car and takes before and after photos, and your receipt and wash report come from Yikes.
Do you wash vans and larger vehicles?
Yes. Vans and larger vehicles cost a little more because they take longer, and the booking page prices it for you. For several vehicles at once, see our fleet page.
