Exterior car detailing in Stevenage

There is a test for whether a Stevenage car needs a detail rather than a wash. Wash it, dry it, then run the back of your fingers across the roof. If it feels gritty, that is contamination bonded into the clear coat: maple honeydew baked on through the summer, iron from the A1(M)'s brake dust, tar from the A602 and site dust from the Station Gateway. No wash lifts it. The Exterior Detail does, with a chemical decontamination and a clay, and then it waxes the smooth paint, restores the plastics and compounds the windscreen. Yikes does it on the drive or in the court, through a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network.

What is on the paint

Four things a Stevenage car carries that a wash cannot shift

Honeydew. The Norway maples the Development Corporation planted along every avenue and in every court drip it from June to September. It dries clear and sticky, gathers dust, and after a hot fortnight it has etched a faint ring into the lacquer. The clay lifts the film; the polish in the detail valet softens the rings; the wax stops next summer's layer bonding.

Iron. Every car that uses the A1(M), Gunnels Wood Road or the Lytton Way run collects brake dust, and it lands on the paint and the alloys as particles that rust in place. The iron remover in the decontamination turns purple as it dissolves them, and the wheels, which no brush has got clean in a year, come out the colour they were sold in.

Tar. Resurfacing on the A602 and the Six Hills Way roundabouts throws tar onto the sills and the lower doors as black freckles. The tar remover takes it off chemically rather than by rubbing, which is the difference between a clean sill and a scratched one.

Site dust. The £1bn Station Gateway began on the Oval on 30 January 2026, and the indoor market is being converted into a college campus. A car parked in the town centre, Bedwell or St Nicholas wears a grey film that is alkaline and abrasive, and the right way to remove it is the decontamination and the clay, not a dry cloth.

How it goes

Two to three hours on the drive, water and power included

Type your postcode into the booking page, pick the Exterior Detail and a window, and take the 10am one: the job runs two to three hours on a family car, and the clocks went back on 25 October. A drive is ideal and a court bay works if the washer can get round the car; the only real condition is a dry day, because the wax needs dry paint to bond. Your washer brings water and power and works in order: the detail valet, the iron and tar removers, the clay panel by panel, the deep wheel clean, the plastics restored, the windscreen compounded and protected, then the spray wax. The before and after photographs come with the receipt.

Hertfordshire's gritters run from October to April, which gives the detail two natural dates. April, after the last salt, lifts a winter's iron and tar and leaves the car waxed for the summer. September, before the first grit, lifts the summer's honeydew and site dust and sends the car into the salt season protected. For a car you intend to keep for years, the September detail is the preparation for a ceramic coating; for a car you are selling, the detail the week before the photographs is the best money you will spend on the price.

Stevenage questions

Good to know

What makes a detail different from a Deluxe Exterior?
The decontamination and the clay. A Deluxe Exterior washes the paint well and protects it; the Exterior Detail removes what is bonded into it first, then restores the plastics and the windscreen, then waxes.
Can you take the maple honeydew rings off?
The film, yes, with the clay. The faint etched rings soften with the detail valet's polish; a ring that has been there for two summers needs the full correction that comes with a ceramic coating.
My wheels are brown and nothing shifts it. Is that fixable?
Yes. It is iron from brake dust bonded to the alloy, and the iron remover dissolves it. The wheels come out the colour they were sold in.
Does it need a dry day?
Yes, for the wax to bond. If rain is forecast your washer will move the booking to the next dry window.
Detail or ceramic coating?
The detail for tired paint, a car you will keep a year or two, or a car going on sale. The coating for a car worth protecting for two years; the detail's decontamination is the first half of its preparation either way.
Is it the same price as in London?
Yes. One booking page, one set of prices, and Members Club takes 20 percent off.
Do you need my water or electricity?
No. Your washer brings water, power and all the kit, so there is nothing to connect or set up. A flat, a terrace, a drive or a village street all work.
Do I need to be in?
Not for an outside only wash, as long as the car is where you said it would be and the washer can reach it. For anything that includes the inside, someone needs to unlock the car.
Who will wash my car?
In Hertfordshire your wash is done by a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network. You book and pay through Yikes at the usual prices, the washer checks in at the car and takes before and after photos, and your receipt and wash report come from Yikes.
Do you wash vans and larger vehicles?
Yes. Vans and larger vehicles cost a little more because they take longer, and the booking page prices it for you. For several vehicles at once, see our fleet page.
