Exterior car detailing across West London and Heathrow

Wash a car anywhere west of Acton and it is grey again inside a fortnight. The grey is not dirt; it is what has bonded into the clear coat, and each of the west's corridors contributes its own: the M4 towns get the airport's oily film, the A40 towns get the Western Avenue's iron and tar, Harrow gets a century of limes, Slough gets three motorways and, this year, a demolition. The Exterior Detail is the job that gets underneath it, with a chemical decontamination and a clay, and then waxes the smooth paint, restores the plastics and compounds the windscreen. Yikes sends a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network to the drive or the bay. Hillingdon has its own page.

Four corridors

What the detail lifts from each part of the west

The M4 corridor: Hounslow, Feltham, Southall, Slough

Soot and iron. Europe's busiest airport lands over the TW post town and Southall, and the film that settles is oily, holds water and works into lacquer over a season; the motorway underneath fires brake dust into the paint and the alloys. The decontamination dissolves both, the clay lifts what is left, the wax means next month's film rinses off. Slough's town centre is a demolition site from this year, with the Queensmere centre closed in January 2026 and coming down by December, and the cement dust on a car parked nearby is a clay job, never a cloth job.

The A40: Ealing, Hanwell, Greenford, Northolt

Honeydew and tar. The limes of the Queen of the Suburbs drip from June to September and the sugar bakes into rings on a Pitshanger roof; the Western Avenue's resurfacing throws tar onto the sills of every Greenford and Northolt car. The clay lifts the rings, the tar remover takes the sills back to black without rubbing, and the wax goes on before the salt.

The Metropolitan line: Harrow

Sap and school traffic. Metroland's avenues and the Hill's limes put a summer of sap on the newest cars in the west, and the detail valet's polish softens the etching a wash reveals. For a Harrow lease car, the detail the week before the hand back is the best money spent on the return.

The river: Staines, Twickenham, Sunbury

Salt and damp. A car between the Thames and the Colne spends the winter wet, with the M25 and the M3 adding spray, and salt on wet paint for months is what dulls it. The detail in April lifts the winter off; the wax means the next one beads away. Twickenham's riverside drives add the rugby crowds' grit and nothing the detail cannot shift.

How often

Twice a year everywhere, three times under the approach

Hounslow's gritters go out from mid November, Bath Road and Staines Road first, and Ealing, Harrow, Spelthorne and Slough salt their main roads with them, which gives the detail its two usual dates. April, when a winter of salt, iron and tar has bonded to the paint and needs lifting before the summer; September, when the summer's sap and site dust come off before the salt returns. Under the airport's approach there is a third, in midsummer, because the film does not stop for the weather. For a car worth keeping for years the September detail is the preparation for a ceramic coating; for a car going on sale or back to a lease company, the week before is the date that always pays.

The booking takes a minute: the postcode, which the page checks against the Network's coverage, then the Exterior Detail and a window. With the clocks gone back on 25 October the 10am window is the sensible one, because the washer needs two to three hours of daylight. A drive is best; a kerb space in a Southall terrace works at a quiet hour, and a bay under a Hounslow tower works if it is dry and the washer can get all the way round. The one thing the day has to be is dry, or the wax will not bond, and the washer will move a booking rather than wax wet paint. Water and power arrive in the van.

Details we do across the west

  • Feltham car under the approach: the detail three times a year for the soot film, waxed between.
  • Southall M4 commuter with brown wheels: the detail; the iron remover does what scrubbing cannot.
  • Ealing car with honeydew rings after a summer under the limes: the detail, then a wax to stop next year's.
  • Staines car after a wet winter: the detail in April, wax on for the summer.
  • Slough car parked near the Queensmere demolition: the detail for the cement film, the only safe way to lift it.
  • Harrow lease car going back: the detail the week before, then the end of lease clean.

West London and Heathrow questions

Good to know

Is Slough covered, given it is outside London?
Yes, wherever a Network washer reaches; the booking page checks the postcode, and the price is the same as in London.
The bonnet goes grey a week after every wash. Will the detail stop that?
It will remove what is already bonded, and the wax at the end means the next film sits on top and rinses off. Under the approach, a detail three times a year and a wash between is the rhythm that keeps the grey away.
Why does the iron remover go purple?
It reacts with the iron particles from brake dust as it dissolves them. The colour is the dust leaving; it rinses straight off.
Can it be done at the kerb in Southall?
Yes, in your own space at a quiet hour, as long as the washer can get all the way round the car and the day is dry.
What if it rains?
The booking moves to the next dry window. Wax will not bond to wet paint.
Is the detail enough, or should I get the coating?
The detail for paint that needs rescuing, a car with a year or two left, or a car about to be sold. The coating for a keeper; its machine correction goes further and the ceramic lasts two years.
Do you need my water or electricity?
No. Your washer brings water, power and all the kit, so there is nothing to connect or set up. A flat, a terrace, a drive or a village street all work.
Do I need to be in?
Not for an outside only wash, as long as the car is where you said it would be and the washer can reach it. For anything that includes the inside, someone needs to unlock the car.
Who will wash my car?
In West London and Heathrow your wash is done by a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network. You book and pay through Yikes at the usual prices, the washer checks in at the car and takes before and after photos, and your receipt and wash report come from Yikes.
Do you wash vans and larger vehicles?
Yes. Vans and larger vehicles cost a little more because they take longer, and the booking page prices it for you. For several vehicles at once, see our fleet page.
