Hillingdon, town by town

Hillingdon was put together in 1965 from four councils, Uxbridge, Hayes and Harlington, Ruislip-Northwood and Yiewsley and West Drayton, and sixty years on it still parks like four places. Here is how a wash that comes to you fits each of them.

Hayes, Yeading and the Heathrow villages

The south of the borough is flats, terraces and renting: half of Hayes Town's homes are flats, 42 percent are privately let, and Heathrow Villages ward is the most transient in Hillingdon. The council's HY zones manage the streets, the new blocks at the Old Vinyl Factory and Hayes Village come with allocated bays, and the deposit on every car is jet film from the airport two miles south.

West Drayton, Yiewsley and Uxbridge

The middle is mid century semis and a building boom: more than 800 new homes approved around West Drayton station, the Uxbridge Town Centre Vision moving to detailed design, and Hillingdon Hospital to be rebuilt from 2028. Cars live on drives, in undercroft bays and in the zones around the Chimes.

Ickenham, Ruislip, Eastcote and Northwood

The north is Metro-land: avenues of semis and detached houses with drives and garages, planted with limes a century ago, and the highest car ownership in the borough. The only zones are around the stations and the Lido, and the only problem is the trees.

Parking in Hillingdon, and why you do not need to worry about it

First things first: you do not need to buy a visitor voucher for us. Your washer sorts their own parking, so the only car that needs to be legally parked is yours.

Even so, the rules are worth knowing. Every Hillingdon resident permit is virtual, tied to the registration rather than a windscreen disc, except carers' and business permits. From 6 April 2026 a first permit costs £92.40 a year, up from £84, a second £132.90, a third £179.10, a fourth £219.50 and a fifth £259.90, and a cancellation is refunded by the full months left less a £5 fee. Visitor vouchers are charged by the session and were raised to £1.35 in 2024. The 2026 to 2027 budget consultation proposed steep rises in the borough's car parks, including St Martin's Approach in Ruislip from £1.70 to £2.90 for two hours, and new winter charges at the Ruislip Lido car parks. Zones are adjusted street by street through the year: bays were removed in Tolcarne Drive and Boldmere Road in May 2026 for new crossings, and orders for the Northwood and Ickenham zones came into force on 14 August.

The ULEZ has covered Hillingdon since 29 August 2023, at £12.50 a day for a non compliant car, every day except Christmas Day. A car that is parked and not driven that day pays nothing, which is one more reason to have it cleaned where it sits.

What Hillingdon does to a car

Heathrow is the borough's defining fact. It covers 4.74 square miles of the south, was the busiest airport in Europe in 2025, and puts a fine, oily black film of jet exhaust and brake dust on every car parked within a few miles of the Bath Road. The M4, the M25 and the A40 add motorway film across the rest of the borough. In the north, the limes of Metro-land and the oaks of Ruislip Woods drop sap from June and leaves from October, and the Colne Valley, the Grand Union Canal and the Lido bring birds all year. The third runway, if it comes, is now talked about for 2039.

Jet film bonds to paint in a way road dust does not, and sap and droppings etch a clear coat if they sit for weeks. An outside wash every few weeks takes them off before they mark, your washer rinses before anything touches the paint and cleans the wheels separately from the body, and a ceramic coating is the one thing that keeps airport film from gripping a newer car.

Hillingdon life: woods, water and the world's airport

Every Hillingdon neighbourhood page has its own local life section. Here are a few favourites from across the borough.

The green borough

Hillingdon runs 239 parks and open spaces and holds 67 Green Flag awards, the most of any council in the country, with the Colne Valley Regional Park covering about a sixth of its area.

Stockley Park

The business estate between Hayes and West Drayton was listed Grade II on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens in 2020, has a 274 acre country park, and since 2019 has been the home of the VAR hub, which is why football fans curse it.

The Old Vinyl Factory

EMI's Hayes works pressed the Beatles' records, which is why Hayes, Middlesex is printed on the back of the sleeves. The pressing plant is becoming the Gramophone, a cultural venue, as the last piece of the redevelopment.

Who lives here, and the clean that suits

The 2021 Census counted 305,909 people in Hillingdon in 109,228 households. Seventy eight percent of households have a car and a third have two or more, but the spread across the borough is the widest in outer London: Ickenham and South Harefield is 87 percent car owning and a third detached, while Hayes Town is 63 percent car owning, half flats and 42 percent privately rented. Nearly a third of all homes are flats and a quarter are privately rented, much of that around the airport. The car in Hillingdon lives on a Metro-land drive, in a bay under a new block, in a parking court or at the kerb in a zone, and we wash it in all four.

  • Two cars on a drive in Ickenham, Ruislip or Northwood: book both and your washer does them together.
  • A car in a bay under a block in Hayes, Uxbridge or West Drayton: Essential Exterior every few weeks against airport film.
  • Airport shift workers and crew: an outside only wash while you sleep or while you are airside.
  • A terrace with the car at the kerb: Essential Inside & Out, and your zone space stays yours.
  • A newer car anywhere near the Bath Road: a ceramic coating against two years of jet film.

More on this: how a wash works on a permit street and what a ceramic coating actually does.

Hillingdon questions

Good to know

Which parts of Hillingdon do you cover?
All of it: Hayes, Yeading, Harlington and the Heathrow villages, West Drayton and Yiewsley, Uxbridge, Hillingdon and Cowley, Ickenham, Ruislip, Eastcote and Northwood, plus Harefield and Denham in UB9. Use the postcode finder above or put your postcode into the booking page to see the windows available.
Do I need to buy a visitor voucher for the washer?
No. Your washer sorts their own parking, so there is nothing for you to buy, whichever Hillingdon zone you live in.
Can you wash my car in the car park under my block?
Yes, where the building allows it. Check with your managing agent, then add the access details, level and bay in the notes when you book.
I work at Heathrow. Can you wash the car in the staff car park?
No. We wash at home, on the drive or at the kerb where the car is legally parked. Book an outside only wash for while you are at work or asleep and nobody needs to be in.
Is it the same price as the rest of London?
Yes. Hillingdon washes are booked on the same page at the same prices, and Members Club savings apply here too.
Do you need my water or electricity?
No. Your washer brings water, power and all the kit, so there is nothing to connect or set up. A flat, a terrace, a drive or a village street all work.
Do I need to be in?
Not for an outside only wash, as long as the car is where you said it would be and the washer can reach it. For anything that includes the inside, someone needs to unlock the car.
Who will wash my car?
In West London and Heathrow your wash is done by a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network. You book and pay through Yikes at the usual prices, the washer checks in at the car and takes before and after photos, and your receipt and wash report come from Yikes.
Do you wash vans and larger vehicles?
Yes. Vans and larger vehicles cost a little more because they take longer, and the booking page prices it for you. For several vehicles at once, see our fleet page.
