Yes, Yikes Car Wash now covers Ruislip, Ruislip Manor and South Ruislip, the three wards of the old Domesday manor that the Metropolitan Railway turned into suburbs after 1904. We clean cars where they are parked: on the drives of the 1930s avenues, at the kerb in the RL zones around the station and the Lido, in the closes of Ruislip Manor and South Ruislip, and on the gravel outside the listed cottages at the top of the High Street. Book online, pick a two hour window, and a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network comes with water, power and kit.

Parking reality
Ruislip grew when its station opened in 1904, and a new urban district, Ruislip-Northwood, was carved out of Uxbridge Rural District to manage the growth. What got built was the interwar suburb at its best: semis and detached houses with drives and garages on avenues that curve away from the station, and the 2021 Census still shows it. Ruislip ward is 37 percent detached, 71 percent owner occupied and 84 percent car owning; Ruislip Manor is 78 percent owner occupied; South Ruislip is 84 percent car owning. The car lives on the drive, and that is where we wash it.
The exceptions are the station and the Lido. Around Ruislip station the council runs permit zones to keep commuters off the residential roads, with virtual permits at £92.40 a year for a first car from April 2026. Around the Lido, the RL2 zone protects the streets from summer visitors who will not pay for the Lido car parks, and residents have petitioned for its hours to match the car park charging times; the two Lido car parks took about £249,000 in pay and display between April and September 2023. The 2026 to 2027 budget consultation proposed raising St Martin's Approach in the High Street from £1.70 to £2.90 for two hours, and the Lido car parks with it.
On the drive, nothing moves. On a zoned street, your washer sorts their own parking and the only permit that matters is yours. On a hot Saturday near the Lido, book a weekday instead and the street will be yours again.
What Ruislip does to a car
Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve is the largest block of ancient woodland in Greater London, and it wraps the north of Ruislip from Mad Bess Wood to Park Wood above the Lido. That means sap on the bonnet from June, leaf fall from October and bird droppings all year, with the Lido's geese and gulls adding their share on the streets around Reservoir Road. South Ruislip has the A40 and the RAF Northolt perimeter, and the commute down to the Polish War Memorial junction adds brake dust and motorway film.
None of it is a problem if it is washed off every few weeks; all of it marks if it sits for a season. Your washer rinses before anything touches the paint, and a ceramic coating gives a newer car two years of protection against the trees.
How it works
Local life
A 9th century farm, a 13th century church, a reservoir that became a beach and the longest twelve inch railway in Britain. These are the places that shape a week here.
The settlement at the top of the High Street dates from the 9th century and is a local heritage site, with the Great Barn, the Little Barn library and the moated manor house site. The Grade II listed buildings at the north end of the High Street form the core of the original village square.

The parish church dates from the 13th century and remains in use. A plaque on its south wall commemorates Lady Mary Bankes of Eastcote, who held Corfe Castle against the Roundheads in 1643.

The reservoir was built in 1811 to feed the Grand Junction Canal and is now a 60 acre lake with a sandy beach, woodland walks and a pub, and two council car parks that fill on the first warm weekend of every year.

A twelve inch gauge miniature railway, the longest of its gauge in Britain, runs from Woody Bay by the beach through the woods to Willow Lawn. It opened in 1945, closed after a derailment in 1978 and has been run by a volunteer society since 1980.

The High Street had a water pump in the middle of the road until the 1970s, when traffic finally forced it onto the pavement.

At the time of Edward the Confessor the manor belonged to Wulfward White, a thane who held land in eleven counties; Arnulf de Hesdin took it after the Conquest and is recorded as its lord in Domesday. The parish covered Ruislip, Northwood, Eastcote, Ruislip Manor and South Ruislip.

The 2021 Census counts 15,441 people in Ruislip ward, 10,980 in Ruislip Manor and 16,838 in South Ruislip. All three are above the Hillingdon average for car ownership, at 83 to 84 percent of households, and Ruislip ward has 40 percent with two or more. Ruislip is 37 percent detached; Ruislip Manor and South Ruislip are semis and terraces, 6 and 7 percent detached, with Ruislip Manor the most owner occupied ward in the borough at 78 percent. The typical booking is a drive with two cars on it.
