Yes, Yikes Car Wash now covers Ickenham, the Metro-land village at the top of Uxbridge where almost every house has a drive and most drives have two cars on them. We clean them there: on the gravel and block paving of Swakeleys Road and the avenues off it, in the closes built on the old Swakeleys estate, and out along Breakspear Road towards Harefield. Book online, pick a two hour window, and a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network comes with water, power and kit. Nothing has to leave the drive.

Parking reality
Ickenham had 329 people at the 1901 census and nearly 10,400 by 2011, and the difference is the Metropolitan Railway's line from Harrow to Uxbridge, which gave the village a station and set off the sale of the Swakeleys estate for housing in 1922. What was built was the Metro-land ideal: detached and semi detached houses on tree lined avenues, each with a garage and a drive, and the 2021 Census shows it still works that way. Ickenham and South Harefield ward has 87 percent of households with a car, the highest in Hillingdon, 44 percent with two or more, a third of homes detached and three quarters owner occupied.
Controlled parking here is a station problem rather than a village one. Hillingdon runs permit zones around Ickenham and West Ruislip stations to keep commuters off the residential roads, and it made further orders for the Northwood and Ickenham zones in August 2026. Permits are virtual and cost £92.40 a year for a first car from April 2026, and the borough's 2026 to 2027 budget consultation proposed higher charges in its car parks. For most of Ickenham, none of it applies: the car is on the drive.
Your car stays where it is and your washer pulls up alongside. On a zoned street near the station, they sort their own parking and the only permit that matters is yours. Two cars on the drive are done in the same visit.
What Ickenham does to a car
The avenues were planted when the houses went up, and a century later they are the reason Ickenham cars need washing: sap from June, leaf fall from October, and birds all year. Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve begins just north of the village and the lanes to Harefield run through green belt, so field dust in a dry spell and farm mud in a wet one add to the mix. The A40 passes the bottom of the village at Swakeleys roundabout, and the commute down it adds motorway film and brake dust.
Sap and droppings etch a clear coat if they sit for weeks; dust scratches if it is wiped off dry. A wash every few weeks takes it off before it marks, your washer rinses before anything touches the paint, and a ceramic coating gives a newer car two years of protection against the trees.
How it works
Local life
A Jacobean mansion, a village pump, an American naval base and the woods. These are the places that shape a week here.
The 17th century Jacobean mansion of the Swakeleys manor still stands, though much of its estate was sold for housing in 1922. Ickenham's other manor house, Manor Farm, is now part of Long Lane Farm.

Ickenham appears three times in Domesday as Ticheham, the homestead of Ticca; the T was lost in the 13th and 14th centuries through confusion with the Middle English word for at. The manor answered for nine and a half hides.

The military station opened in 1917, and from 1975 to 2006 it housed the Navy Exchange of the United States Navy's UK command. The site has since gone to housing.

When the Metropolitan Railway's Harrow to Uxbridge line gave Ickenham a station, residential development began in earnest, and the village became part of what the railway's own publicity called Metro-land.

Buildings from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries survive in the village and have been restored in recent years; Roman era settlement turned up in archaeological surveys.

The National Nature Reserve north of the village is the largest block of ancient woodland in Greater London, with Ruislip Lido on its eastern edge.

Ickenham and South Harefield ward had 15,516 people in 6,042 households at the 2021 Census: 87 percent of households with a car, 44 percent with two or more, 33 percent of homes detached, 20 percent flats and 75 percent owner occupied. It is the most car owning and most owner occupied part of Hillingdon, and the typical booking here is two cars on one drive.
