Yes, Yikes Car Wash now covers Northwood and Northwood Hills, the two Metropolitan line stops on the hill where Hillingdon runs out and Hertfordshire begins. We clean cars where they are parked: on the long drives of the avenues off Rickmansworth Road and Green Lane, in the bays under the flats around both stations, in the NWH zone streets of Northwood Hills, and on the roads around Mount Vernon. Book online, pick a two hour window, and a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network comes with water, power and kit.

Parking reality
Northwood is two places. Up the hill are the detached houses on big plots that made the area famous enough to stand in for Surbiton when the BBC filmed The Good Life here, and they have drives with room for three cars. Around the two stations and along the Pinner Road are the flats and the 1930s terraces of Northwood Hills, where the car lives at the kerb or in a bay. The 2021 Census shows both at once: Northwood ward is 30 percent detached and 44 percent flats, Northwood Hills 28 percent detached and 30 percent flats, with 81 percent of households in each owning a car.
The council runs permit zones around both stations, NWH in Northwood Hills and the Northwood zone by the main station, and adjusts them through the year: in May 2026 it removed the permit bay outside 77 Tolcarne Drive for a new crossing and replaced it with a Monday to Friday 1pm to 2pm restriction, in June it proposed extending a bay in Oakdale Avenue, and in August it made further orders for the Northwood and Ickenham zones. Permits are virtual and cost £92.40 a year for a first car from April 2026. Mount Vernon Hospital on Rickmansworth Road adds staff and visitor parking to the streets around it, as it has for a century.
On a drive up the hill, nothing moves and your washer pulls in beside the car. In a zone street or a station bay, your washer sorts their own parking and the only permit that matters is yours. If there is a gate or a code, the notes on the booking carry it.
What the hill does to a car
Northwood means the northern wood of Ruislip, and the name still fits: Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve adjoins the town, Copse Wood and Mad Bess Wood run along its western edge, and the plots up the hill are full of mature oak and lime. A car parked here is under trees in a way few London cars are, which means sap from June, leaf fall from October and droppings all year. The commute is Rickmansworth Road to the M25 at Chorleywood or the A40 at Northolt, so the cars that drive collect brake dust and motorway film as well.
Sap and droppings etch a clear coat if they sit for weeks; leaves hold damp against it. A wash every few weeks takes it all off before it marks, your washer rinses before anything touches the paint, and a ceramic coating gives a newer car two years of protection against the woods.
How it works
Local life
A hamlet on the Rickmansworth road, 1,500 Domesday pigs, the Goods' house and a hospital whose future is being decided. These are the places that shape a week here.
The Goods' and the Leadbetters' houses, and the streets around them, were filmed in Northwood, standing in for Surbiton. The BBC chose it because it looked like money.

First recorded in 1435 as Northwode, the northern wood of Ruislip. The Domesday survey of 1086 found the parish's woodland could feed 1,500 pigs a year and included a park for wild beasts.

The hamlet grew along the north side of the Rickmansworth to Pinner road, and of Ruislip's three ancient roads only Ducks Hill Road ran through it, south to Ruislip village as Bury Street.

The cancer centre on Rickmansworth Road is run by East and North Hertfordshire. NHS England consulted from 19 January to 29 March 2026 on moving it to a new building at Watford General, run by UCLH, and the joint scrutiny committee backed the move on 16 June.

Most of Northwood is Hillingdon, but the northern part, including parts of Moor Park and Eastbury, is in Hertfordshire, and the Northwood military headquarters sits on the Hertfordshire side. The town has been on the Greater London boundary since 1965.

Northwood and Northwood Hills are both Metropolitan line stops. Northwood had 10,949 people at the 2011 Census and Northwood Hills 11,578, and the 2021 wards are a little bigger.

The 2021 Census counts 11,310 people in Northwood ward and 11,771 in Northwood Hills. Northwood is the borough's most divided ward by housing type, 30 percent detached and 44 percent flats, with 59 percent of homes owner occupied and 27 percent privately rented; Northwood Hills is 28 percent detached, 30 percent flats and 62 percent owner occupied. Car ownership is 81 percent in both, with a third of households running two or more.
