Areas we cover
Kennington is terraces, squares and estates. The Kennington Conservation Area was first designated in 1968 for its terraces from the late 18th century onwards, and Cleaver Square, laid out from 1780, still has the pair of 1788 terraces at its entrance from Kennington Park Road. Streets like these were never built for cars, so the car lives in a bay outside, and that is exactly where we clean it.
The roads round the cricket ground have changed. Lambeth stopped through traffic on parts of Kennington Oval, Bowling Green Street and Clayton Street with an experimental order in June 2024, and decided in November 2025 to make the scheme permanent. On big match days the council has also used temporary orders, with vehicle bans on parts of Kennington Oval, Harleyford Street and Bowling Green Street. If your car is parked by the ground, a non-match day is the easy booking.
Lambeth has been bringing in Housing Estate Permit Parking on its council estates in phases. An estate e-permit is valid only for the car, estate and bay named on it, so your car stays put in its marked bay and your washer works there. If the estate has a gate or barrier, add the access details when you book.
Herne Hill is split down the middle. Lambeth has the station, Railton Road, Brockwell Park and the Lido, plus the c.1900 buildings on the west side of the road called Herne Hill, which form its own conservation area. The east side falls in Southwark, as does the Herne Hill Velodrome on Burbage Road, the only 1948 London Olympics venue still in use. We cover both sides.
Two things shape driving here. The Railton low traffic neighbourhood, between the railway line, Coldharbour Lane, Effra Road and Dulwich Road, was made permanent in December 2021, so your washer comes in by an open route rather than cutting through. And Brockwell Park's festival weekends change the parking around it: for Brockwell Live in May 2026, Lambeth ran nearby resident bays from 9am to 9pm and suspended the pay-to-park bays on the event days. The signs go up before each event, and on those days a weekday booking is far easier.
West Norwood grew up around its cemetery. Opened in 1837 as the South Metropolitan Cemetery and run by Lambeth since 1965, it is one of London's Magnificent Seven Victorian cemeteries, and the conservation area around it takes in Norwood Road, Chestnut Road, Martell Road, Durban Road, Auckland Hill and Hannen Road. Parking here is under review: Lambeth consulted on Healthy Streets and parking controls for the area in spring 2025, so watch your street's signs for changes. Whatever happens, your washer sorts their own parking.
How it works
Local life
From Chartist history to a Sunday market outside the station, these are the places and dates locals know.
Once Kennington Common, scene of the great Chartist rally of 10 April 1848, and a public park since 1852. The Friends of Kennington Park have worked with the council since 2002, and Lambeth marks the rally each April.

Every Sunday from 10am to 4pm on Railton Road, right outside Herne Hill station, with food, plants, arts and crafts.
Brockwell Park's lido opened in July 1937 and has been Grade II listed since 2003.

Lambeth has put a lot into lamp-post charging. It announced 167 more lamp-post charge points in 2024, said in 2025 it was taking control of a network of more than 600 charge points with 264 more lamp-post chargers planned, and in March 2026 moved to make 167 trial charging bays permanent. If you charge at the kerb, the car is already parked where we need it.
