Parking in Peckham, zone by zone

Peckham is not one parking zone but several, and their hours differ more than most people expect. Southwark's own list puts zone PR (Peckham Road South) and zone R (North Peckham) at Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 6.30pm. North-east Peckham's zone T runs Monday to Friday from 8am to 6.30pm after its 2022 extension. Then there are the short ones: Peckham West (PW) operates for just two hours on weekdays, 9am to 11am, and the Queen's Road area zone (QR), which takes in Burchell Road and Carlton Grove, runs only from 1pm to 3pm on weekdays. Zone B, which covers parts of Peckham and Nunhead, was extended in 2024.

Good news first: you do not need to buy a visitor permit for us. Your washer sorts their own parking, so the only car that has to be legally parked is yours, and it already is. That is half the reason people round here book a wash that comes to them.

If you have ever been caught out by Peckham's zones, though, you are not alone. Southwark says that outside a zone's hours nobody needs a permit and visitors park free, so a Peckham West street opens up from 11am, and the Queen's Road zone is quiet either side of its 1pm to 3pm slot. Weekends sit outside every zone listed here except B. Visitor permits for friends and family are virtual: residents buy them, and they are checked against the visiting car's registration. Zones change through new traffic orders, so the sign at your bay is always the final word.

Why a come-to-you wash suits Peckham

Driveways are rare round here. Southwark's own estimate, made for its electric vehicle plans, is that 92 percent of properties in the borough have no off-street parking, so most cars here live on the street or in an estate parking court. Driving off to a car wash means giving up a hard-won space on a controlled street. A wash that comes to the car keeps the space, and the morning.

It also fits how Peckham is changing. The council is rebuilding the front of Peckham Rye station: the 1930s arcade is coming down to open a new square in front of the restored, Grade II listed Victorian station building, and the arcade route from Rye Lane to the station is closed while the work goes on. BAM, the contractor, is aiming to finish in summer 2027. If you park near the works, a regular outside wash keeps the dust from building up on the paint.

School runs and School Streets

Southwark has been adding School Streets, which close roads outside schools to motor traffic at drop-off and pick-up. In Peckham they include John Donne and Rye Oak primaries, and since November 2025 Marmont Road outside Harris Primary Academy Peckham Park closes from 8am to 9am and 3pm to 4pm on term-time weekdays. Our first window starts at 10am, so the morning closure never gets in the way, and a 12pm to 2pm window keeps well clear of the afternoon one.

Local life

Peckham, the place we are washing in

Peckham never really sits still, and most of what goes on is a few streets from where you park. These are the places and dates locals plan their weeks around.

Peckham Rye Park and Common

Recorded as cultivated land before the Norman Conquest, with the Sexby Garden, American Garden, Japanese Garden and arboretum laid out between 1906 and 1915. The Friends of Peckham Rye Park have looked after it since 1995.

Events on the Rye

The Common hosts a regular calendar each year, including the Peckham Rye Fete, Zippos Circus and free film screenings, so there are weekends when the roads around it fill up.

Peckham Festival

A free, non-profit celebration of SE15 every September, centred on Copeland Park, with art, music, film and markets. Southwark News reports it draws nearly 20,000 visitors.

The car park that became a cultural venue

The multi-storey on Rye Lane is now home to Peckhamplex on the ground floor and Bold Tendencies' summer art programme on the top levels, after the council dropped plans to redevelop it in 2017.

Who lives here, and the clean that suits

Around 29,300 people live in Peckham and Rye Lane wards, with about 10,150 more in Peckham Rye ward, according to the council's 2021 Census profile. It is one of the most diverse parts of Southwark, and housing is mixed: council figures show 58 percent of households in Peckham ward and 38 percent in Rye Lane ward in social rented homes, and the heart of Rye Lane is a conservation area of narrow-fronted shops dating from the 18th to the mid-20th century.

  • Family cars on the school run pick up crumbs, mud and sticky handprints. Deluxe Inside & Out does the outside and gives the inside a proper vacuum and wipe down.
  • A car that lives on the street collects road grime, leaves and bird droppings. An Essential Exterior every few weeks stops them etching into the paint.
  • Moving out, selling or handing back a car: the Full Interior Detail shampoos and steams the inside.

Peckham questions

Good to know

Do you cover all of Peckham?
Yes, all of SE15: Peckham town centre and Rye Lane, Bellenden, Peckham Rye, Queens Road and North Peckham. Put your postcode into the booking page and it will show the windows available.
Do I need to buy a visitor permit for the washer?
No. Your washer sorts their own parking, so there is nothing for you to buy. As long as your own car is legally parked where it is, we will come to it.
Do you need my water or electricity?
No. Your washer brings water, power and all the kit, so you do not need a tap, a hose or a socket. Flat, terrace or estate, it makes no difference.
Will a School Street closure stop the washer getting to my car?
It should not. Our first window starts at 10am, after the morning closures, and choosing 12pm to 2pm keeps clear of the 3pm to 4pm afternoon closure on streets like Marmont Road.
Can you wash a car parked in an estate parking court?
Yes, as long as the washer can get to the car. If the court is behind a gate or barrier, add the access details in the notes when you book.
Do I need to be home?
Not for an outside-only wash, as long as the car is where you said it would be. For anything that includes the inside, someone needs to unlock the car.
Who will wash my car?
In South East London your wash is done by a vetted local washer from the Yikes Network. You book and pay through Yikes at the usual prices, the washer checks in at the car and takes before and after photos, and your receipt and wash report come from Yikes.
